There is so much to look forward to when the snow begins to melt and Spring is in the air. Not only does warmer weather bring with it a stronger sense of well-being, as well as more outdoor adventures, it also brings with it something we don’t look forward to: tick borne illness, specifically Lyme disease. We have seen a considerable increase in the prevalence of Lyme disease in Canada and the US over the past 4 years, and as a result, we see more research and better diagnosis emerging.
The signs and symptoms of Lyme disease vary depending on the stage of Lyme disease the person is in. Initially, acute Lyme can look like the flu, with a fever, muscle aches, weakness, and the presentation of a rash (not always present). With later stage Lyme disease or Chronic Lyme disease, it can spread to multi-systems in the body and have a debilitating affect on many of these systems. The systemic symptoms include a huge range including fatigue, headache, muscle and joint pain, neuralgia or peripheral neuropathy, encephalomyelitis, cognitive impairment, cardiac symptoms, abdominal pain, chronic multi-system infections, and night sweats. Visit www.lymedisease.org for a more comprehensive list of CLD. Because symptoms of Chronic Lyme disease are common to many other diseases, it often goes misdiagnosed, and can cause the patient to become overwhelmed with clinical diagnosis over many years.
Homeopathic medicine has been used for over 200 years to treat infections and imbalances in the body successfully, regardless of the type of diagnosis, or whether viral or bacterial, chronic or acute. In the past 10 years, I have seen an enormous increase in cases of Lyme, especially in the last 3 years, of which I have had some success with treatment of people with this particular diagnosis. Here is a case example provided by one of my patients.
“I was sick for over 20 years before I had my first appointment with Sarah Trask. I don’t live in Nova Scotia, so we did it over the phone, and she was amazing. I never knew why I always felt so bad but this year I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Lyme disease. A lot of my symptoms were infection-related (sinus, throat, UTI, etc.) and I had been battling bronchitis for three months when I finally spoke to Sarah. I had gone through three courses of antibiotics to try and treat it, and none of them had made any difference. After our initial consultation, she sent my remedy by mail and after taking it, my cough stopped and my bronchitis was gone, literally overnight. Apart from a lot of reoccurring infections I also suffered from chronic fatigue (no matter how much I slept, or rested) as well as a lot of pain in my neck, lower back and knees. I loved working out but it was hard for me to maintain an active lifestyle when I was in pain and tired all the time. The last time I worked out before getting bronchitis I felt shooting pains in my chest and thought I was having a heart attack. It was just another symptom of Lyme disease, along with worsening heart palpitations and a stroke, which apparently I had had some time ago, without realizing it (my internal specialist saw the results of it on my last CT scan). In addition to my physical symptoms, I was also experiencing memory loss and mental confusion, and have suffered with anxiety and phobias. Since taking the remedy that Sarah prescribed those have all disappeared. I have been symptom free for 10 months! I still don’t fully understand how it works but it does, and for the first time in my life I feel like a normal human being. I have Sarah – and homeopathy – to thank, and I’m so grateful!”
